What You Can Edit
Year, make, model, trim, plate, color, mileage, transmission, fuel type, acquisition source, branch, and asking/cost prices are all editable. The VIN / Chassis Number is not: the field is greyed out on this form and carries the note 'VIN cannot be changed after creation'. Some fields — like creation date and the audit trail — are read-only by design. Branch can only be changed to a branch you have access to (member roles) or any branch (admin/owner).
Concurrent Edits
ShowOps records the version of the vehicle at the moment you opened this page. If two people open the same vehicle and both try to save, the second save will be rejected with a 'changed since you opened this' error. Refresh, review what the other person changed, and apply your edits on top of the new state.
Editing Branch vs. Branch Transfer
Changing the branch here is a quick edit. If your tenant has the Branch Transfer feature enabled, prefer the dedicated Transfer flow — it tracks approval, the moving date, and creates a notification trail. Use the edit field only for one-off corrections (e.g., the vehicle was assigned to the wrong branch at creation).
Edits Are Logged
Every save here writes an entry to the audit log: who edited, when, and which fields changed. If the vehicle's history seems off or a price changed unexpectedly, check Settings > Audit Log filtered by this vehicle to see the full trail. There is no in-place undo — to revert, manually re-enter the old value.
Common questions
- Why can't I change the branch?
- If your role is scoped to specific branches, the dropdown will only show those — you can't move a vehicle into a branch you don't have access to. Owners and admins see every branch in the dropdown.
- I edited the price and it didn't save. What happened?
- Most likely the concurrency check failed — another user saved a change between when you opened the page and when you clicked Save. Refresh the page; your changes are gone, so re-apply them on top of the latest data.
- Will editing the vehicle break existing deals?
- Deals reference the vehicle live, so changing the year, color, or mileage will be reflected on linked deal documents next time they're regenerated. Saved documents (snapshots) keep the old values. Don't change the plate on a vehicle that's mid-deal — it identifies the unit on legal paperwork. The VIN / Chassis Number can't be changed at all, so that one is already safe.
